Pooh-Pooh Tata?

We have been trying to give the new Wake County Superintendent Anthony Tata some time to get acclimated to the area before we say anything about him, either positive or negative. Sure, we were not huge fans of his background, but change is change, and we’re more than willing to give the guy a fair shake.

So far, the jury is still out.

Tata seems to be sensitive to both sides of the diversity debate. His implicit support for neighborhood schools is troubling, as is his assertion that neighborhood schools are “working” in Washington, DC. However, he seems to have a laudable independent streak, which should be fun to watch, if not actually useful.  (“I’m my own man.  Anybody who thinks I’m in their pocket has got another thought coming.”)

We still have a few weeks before Mr. Tata begins his reign – let’s hope things move in the right direction.

Which is left, of course.
