Segregation is Fine says JLF

Did you catch Terry Stoops, Director of Education Studies at the John Locke Foundation, on The State of Things on WUNC this afternoon? We sure did. While we at NCSJP are accustomed to disagreeing with most of the positions of the John Locke Foundation, we were absolutely flabbergasted to heard Mr. Stoops say, in response to a question about how to explain the result of re-segregated schools when parents were given choice over which schools their children attend, “I think that if a student is receiving an education that best meets their needs, then that’s not a failure, that’s a success, regardless of what the school looks like.”

Translation? Segregation is fine with us, as long as parents choose it.  Apparently, a PhD in education does not teach basic constitutional principles.  Or any human decency, for that matter.

Think we’re taking it out of context? Don’t take our word for it.  Listen for yourself – the conversation start about the 43rd minute.  The rest of the show is, as usual, very good.
